THE SECOND EDITION OF BAI INTXAURRONDO IS HERE!

After the success of the first edition, the BAI Public Art Encounters of Intxaurrondo are back.

With all the illusion in the world.

And with a firm purpose: to bring contemporary art closer to the citizens of San Sebastian.

See you on November 5 and 6!

BAI IS ON, BAI TO ALL!

Did you know that Intxaurrondo Sur houses four impressive sculptures?

They were created and installed in the 1990s by internationally renowned artists:

  • Child's Play, by Agustín Ibarrola
  • The Silhouettes, by Agustín Ibarrola.
  • Forms of Growth, by Koldobika Jauregi
  • Monolith, by Equipo 57

Once again this year, the BAI Meetings will make the most of all their greatness. And they will make them shine.

They will offer the opportunity to intxaurrondotarras, donostiarras and visitors to interact with the sculptures and to know them in depth, through artistic practice and guided tours open to all audiences.

Three leading contemporary artists will give guided workshops on the works, in which participants will be able to learn about the authors of the sculptures, the materials they used and the ideas that inspired them.

In addition, they will create their own unique piece, thus building their own artistic reinterpretation.

This year's artists are Jaime de los Ríos, Ismael Iglesias and Mikel R. Nieto

And its workshops are intended to be a citizen response to the works Juego de Niños, Las Siluetas and Formas de Crecimiento (Child's Play, The Silhouettes and Forms of Growth). An update based on the creativity of the artists and the individual and collective memory of the participants.

The workshops will take place on Saturday, November 5, and the works, performances and happenings realized and/or conceptualized in them will be shown on November 6, THE GREAT SUNDAY, through a guided tour through the streets and squares of Intxaurrondo that house the works that will have inspired them.

Sunday will also see the unveiling of the piece by the guest artist for this second edition: Berta López (aka Loca López), who will reinterpret the fourth piece in the Intxaurrondo sculptural tour: Monolito, by Equipo 57.

FROM YOU TO INFINITY, WORKSHOP GIVEN BY JAIME DE LOS RÍOS

from the play Juego de niños by Agustín Ibarrola

Jaime de los Ríos

Jaime de los Ríos is an artist from San Sebastian with an international career, founder of the open laboratory of Art and Science ARTEK [Laboratory, 2007], created in the Arteleku creation center and currently an independent space. Many of his works are collaborative and participatory (For Jaime's biography click here).

For this workshop Jaime has planned a "practical lecture" on the art of the mirror.

Thus, the mirror will be the main material with which the workshop participants will reinterpret Ibarrola's piece, Juego de niños (Child's Play).

How can the mirror be used as a material and a form of individual and artistic expression? What possibilities does it offer for symbolizing concepts such as infinity? How can its essential property, the power to faithfully reflect what is in front of it, be exploited to create something unique?

Thanks to mirrors of different shapes and sizes, workshop participants will discover the infinite variations that a simple mirror can provide.

Dare to play with the mirror.

Let yourself be carried away by the particular universe and creative process of Jaime de los Ríos.

STREET FIGHTER, WORKSHOP GIVEN BY ISMAEL IGLESIAS

based on the work Formas de crecimiento by Koldobika Jauregi.

Ismael Iglesias
Ismael Iglesias

Using paint bombs, mattresses and other urban supports, Ismael Iglesias will invite us to write reflections, poetry, thoughts, phrases or words by practicing calligraphy on a large scale.

Ismael Iglesias is a multidisciplinary artist with a plural work that navigates between painting and installation. He has exhibited in cities such as Bilbao, Barcelona, Basel, Beijing, L.A., London, Madrid or Tijuana. To consult Ismael's biography click here.

The series "Street Fighter prácticas Bastardas" was born four years ago in the streets of Bilbao. It is a collection of urban interventions that aim to make real the "ideas or actions that end up in the drawer of pending things and that you never do".

The next episode of this artistic initiative lands in BAI INTXAURRONDO to intervene, with the help of the workshop participants, the work Formas de crecimiento, by Koldobika Jauregi.

This workshop will also be an opportunity to reflect on the ways in which people can communicate their ideas in the public space while respecting the law

"RADIO KAPITALA" WORKSHOP GIVEN BY MIKEL R NIETO

based on the work Las siluetas, by Agustín Ibarrola

Mikel R. Nieto

Through radio practice, Nieto will propose to intervene in the "soundscape" of the Gabriel Celaya square, where the sculpture Las Siluetas by Agustín Ibarrola is located. He will do so by using sounds, noises and the voices of the participants of this sound workshop.

Artist, independent researcher and eventual curator, Nieto coordinated together with José Luis Espejo and Xabier Erkizia the Observatory of Listening in the framework of the European Capital of Culture Donostia / San Sebastián 2016. His works navigate around the phonographic practice. To consult Mikel's biography click here

No sound is innocent and no listening is passive. Sound is part of the public space and listening is the privatization of sound. Both, as matter and perception, help us to question ourselves as individuals and as society.  "The capital of listening is not the sound, but the absence of sound" says Nieto. Thanks to this workshop we will explore how we can intervene the public space with sound.
